Waterloo Cup 1837

The second running of the Waterloo Cup took place on Wednesday 22nd February 1837 and had an increased number of entries and increased prize money of £160. It was an alternative attraction to the second 'unofficial' Grand National at Aintree. The entry conditions for the race required 16 subscribers to subscribe their nomination at £10 each. The winner received a trophy and £160. The winner, Fly, was owned by Mr Jebb, although newspapers of the day recorded it as Mr Stanton. However, the stud book showed the dog to be owned by Mr Jebb. The runner-up was Doctor Fop owned by the appropriately named Mr Speed.
